[englisch/amerikanisch, prə'gresɪv 'kʌntrɪ], ausgesprochen innovative Form der Countrymusic, die ihr in künstlerisch-musikalischer wie auch in inhaltlicher Hinsicht neues Territorium zu erschließen sucht, ohne dabei die stilistische Identität dieser Musik aufzugeben. Typische Vertreter sind Willie Nelson (* 1933), Waylon Jennings (1937-2002), Lyle Lovett (* 1957), Mark O'Connor (* 1961) und k. d. lang (* 1962).
